Aam Aadmi Party Advertisement Shock: Asked to Pay Rs 163 Crore in 10 Days

This cartoon was first published in The Hindu

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) may have just gotten a rather expensive bill in the mail. The party has been served a recovery notice of Rs 163.62 crore for its political advertisements in the garb of government ads.

But if they thought they would get away with it, they better think again – the DIP has given them only ten days to pay up or else the office will be sealed!

That’s a huge sum to pay back! The total amount to be paid is Rs 163 crore – Rs 99.31 crore, of which is the principal amount incurred on political ads until March 31, 2017, and the remaining Rs 64.31 crore is on account of the penal interest on this amount.

The bill is only a month old, following Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena’s directive to the Chief Secretary to recover Rs 97 crore from the AAP for their political advertisements.
