Opposition Absent, 15 Bills Passed In Rajya Sabha In Two Days
As the opposition sat outside, boycotting the proceedings in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, 15 bills were passed over yesterday and today. While 7 bills were passed yesterday, 8 bills made it past the Rajya Sabha today.
Out of these bills, 3 were the hugely contentious labour laws that have been opposed by most labour unions. Among the legislations passed yesterday, was a key bill that removes cereals, pulses and onion from the Essential Commodities list. Another Bill abolishes penalty for certain offences by companies.
Meanwhile, the opposition wrote to President Ram Nath Kovind, urging him not to sign the contentious farm bill. The opposition says the proposed legislations were passed in the din without division of votes.
The Lok Sabha has been adjourned sine die and Monsoon session has formally ended.
