
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrives in Leh -Ladakh
Amid an ongoing standoff between Indian and Chinese troops in Ladakh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Leh along with Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat. The two were briefed by officers of Leh-based HQ 14 Corps, which oversees India’s defences along the LAC in this sector. PM Modi was at one of the forward locations in Nimu. “He reached there early in the morning. In his surprise visit to Ladakh, PM interacted with Army, Air Force and ITBP personnel in Nimu, news agency PTI reported citing official sources. PM Modi’s presence in Leh is expected to boost the morale of the Indian troops posted in the area. Tensions between India and China rose on June 15, when the two sides were locked in a violent clash which resulted in the martyrdom of 20 Indian soldiers.
