Need to turn crisis into an opportunity for creating Atmanirbhar Bharat
Forty days into the national lockdown implemented to contain the spread of coronavirus pandemic, India allowed liquor shops to open resulting in chaotic scenes across cities. The ministry of home affairs had relaxed lockdown restrictions which allowed liquor shops to open accross the country. About 4,500 standalone liquor outlets outside containment zones were allowed to be opened in the third phase of the lockdown. People gathered outside various liquor shops accross the country in large numbers, going against social distancing guidelines at several places. Only stores outside hotspots and containment zones have been allowed to resume sales, while people have been prohibited to sit and consume alcohol at model shops and country bars. Not more than five customers are allowed at any liquor store at any given point of time and they too have to observe a gap of at least two meters between them.
